Robot with UV-C light system disinfects surfaces

Robot technology with UV-C light system was developed by MIT to protect community areas from coronavirus and other factors. UV-C light technology (ultraviolet antiseptic irradiation) can disinfect all surfaces and destroy particles belonging to viruses. It is also very dangerous for human health in direct contact. UV - C light technology is often used to sterilize hospitals and patient rooms. Taking all this into account , MIT's Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) has contracted with Ava Robotics to develop a robot that can disinfect surfaces. The first prototype of the specially designed UV-C light robot was placed at the Greater Boston Food Bank. The Robot was able to travel at a speed of 0.35 km per hour in the Food Store, reaching and clearing up to 90% of the virus particles present on the surface within half an hour.

Experts said this artificial intelligence-powered robot developed could be used to sterilize the environment in all institutions, such as schools, hospitals, cafes and grocery stores. UV-C light system robot is able to clean the areas determined by mapping method. New control systems are also still being worked on for a better mapping method. Unfortunately, the fact that people are still at risk during disinfecting operations to protect against the effects of COVID-19 cannot prevent the spread of the epidemic. Therefore, it is planned to reduce human intervention and prevent this situation by providing remote control. In addition, the fact that UV-C rays pose a danger to human health also requires that only the autonomous robot be located in the current area during the disinfecting process.

The importance of the Boston Food Bank, chosen specifically for this need, is that it is a food factory. Among the most endangered institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic, the food sector ranks first. For this reason, the food sector is responsible for showing more sensitivity to this issue. In order not to reduce people's confidence in packaged or unpackaged food intake, the necessary measures include a robot with a UV-C light system. It is of great importance for people that food products are completely free of virus particles.

Alyssa Pierson, a scientist at MIT's Artificial Intelligence Lab, said: “the food sector is doing quite a service for society. In this process, it is critical to be able to help sustain this operation."he used his words.

Therefore, providing a disinfection capacity in addition to the measures taken is seen as a fairly good opportunity to reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19.

Robot technology with UV-C light system will provide a great help to humans for disinfecting large areas. Confidence in autonomous systems will continue to grow day by day to prevent people from being at great risk during the disinfection process.
